10 Facts of Islam Religion

Islamism is a diverse and heterogeneous movement of political but also religious characteristics. It has the purpose of acting in political life according to the religious thoughts, precepts, and beliefs of Islam, the Muhammad religion.

The three main ceremonies of Islam are birth, marriage, and death. The symbol of Islam is a half-moon on the right side and a slightly smaller five-pointed star on the upper left.

1. Pillars of faith:
One of the main pillars of Islam is the prayer that takes place in front of Mecca.
There are 5 pillars of faith for Islam. These are:

  1. Shahada: Sincerely reciting the Muslim profession of faith.
  2. Pray daily to God.
  3. Work with charity.
  4. The Fast.
  5. Pilgrimage to Mecca. This episode must happen at least once in the life of every Muslim. This is known as Hajj.

2. Ceremonies:

As for the important ceremonies for Islam are:

  1. The birth: At birth, the child’s father whispers in his ear the “call to prayer.” Then place some honey on the child’s tongue. It is, from this ritual, that the child is Muslim. After a week of birth, a ceremony called “aqiqah” is celebrated, by which the newborn is named.
  2. Marriage: As for the ritual of marriage, there must be at least 2 witnesses for the ceremony. The marriage can take place in the house of one of the spouses or the mosque. Both spouses must kneel in front of the imam (who directs the ceremony) to declare that they are getting married at their own will.
  3. Death: If the person knows that he is going to die, he must begin to recite something called “the shahada” but if the same person can’t recite it, then it will be those present who must recite it.

After the death of the person, the body is washed with water. This ritual must be performed by people of the same sex as the deceased. The body is then wrapped in the “Irma”, sacred white sheet. Finally, the body is taken to the mosque.

3. Allah:

This is the term to refer to God. No other person can be called Allah, except the only true God. This name means “God” in Aramaic. Allah is the only supreme, almighty God and creator of the universe.

4. The Quran:

The Quran is the sacred book for the Islamic religion. This book consists of 114 chapters, which were transmitted to Muhammad of Allah. This book contains the word of Allah and is a message written in a clear language for the salvation of mankind.

5. The Hadith:

This is a story or narrative that represents the actions and sayings of Muhammad. The hadiths are the main source of the Sunna, the second source of Muslim law after the Koran.

6. Sharia

Sharia is Islamic law. It is a religious law forming part of the Islamic tradition. This constitutes a detailed code of conduct. It also includes moral and not only legal behaviors, it indicates what is allowed and prohibited.

7. The “Umma” community

The aspiration of all Islam is the unification of it. This religion was divided shortly after Muhammad’s death, is divided mainly into two major sides: the Sunni (traditional and majority orthodox religion) and the Shia Islam, minority branch (except for southern Iraq, Iran and part of Lebanon where they are most).

8. Muhammad:

Muhammad is the prophet of Allah, the only God for Muslims. Islamism has a book that is the word of Allah. This book is sacred. The 8 words in Arabic that summarize the belief of Islam are: “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.”

9. Islam:

Islam arose when Muhammad received, from the archangel Gabriel, a divine message. After this message, Muhammad knew that he should promulgate religion and that it would be protected by Allah himself.

10. Muslim should pray 5 times in a day

It is also known as Salat. Muslims should pray 5 times a day at specific times:

  1. Salat al-fajr: dawn, before sunrise
  2. Salat al-zuhr: midday, after the sun passes its highest
  3. Salat al-asr: the late part of the afternoon
  4. Salat al-maghrib: just after sunset
  5. Salat al-isha: between sunset and midnight
